Biological attributes

Plant description Tree growing with straight trunk. Cymose inflorescences on terminal part of branch. Flower buds greenish becoming yellow. Few open flowers, many stamens and small white petals dropping off. Odor of essential oil in leaves. No latex.
Locality and habit remarks Secondary Andean submontane forest growing on soil with abundant leaf litter. Shaded by taller trees and surrounding vegetation includes palms, various subshrubs and herbs. Inside Otun Quimbaya Sanctuary for Flora and Fauna, along the Sendero Humedal trail heading west from park headquarters, 1.5 m off path.
